Hello, my name is Paul Wright and I am a "retired" teacher from Grandview Hts. High School and the owner of Village Trophy Co., a business that I started over 48 years ago while I was teaching and which I continue to operate today. I am humbly asking for your help to save my business that was devastated by the 2020 COVID shutdown and the events that followed. I had just purchased a large amount of components and materials in preparation for my peak spring and summer season when the COVID shutdown started. When all the events were canceled, no trophies or awards were needed. In the first two days of the shutdown, we had over $30,000 of unpaid completed orders that were canceled. This was followed by the cancellation of over $75,000 of future orders. Sales for 2020 were down over 70% for the year. Sales continued down over 50% in 2021 as events were slow to recover. While current sales have recovered and now exceed 2019 levels, the debt issues from 2020 continue to challenge my business' survival. When my business was shuttered, I made a commitment to my employees' well-being as my top priority. I used business and personal funds to maintain them at full salary and benefits throughout this period. I simply had no income to pay my mortgage, supplier invoices, and payroll taxes during this time. I've worked every day and done everything that I can do to recover from this financially, but I am still behind in payments to my suppliers and most importantly I still have unpaid payroll taxes. The IRS is threatening to seize my property, my bank accounts, accounts receivables, etc. They have the power to shut me down and sell off my equipment and inventory to satisfy my tax debt. They have recently required me to provide them with asset lists, accounts receivable reports, etc., and I fear that they could shut my business down any day. I've tried repeatedly, but I've had no success in securing a bank loan to pay the IRS and get current with my suppliers. This GoFundMe is my last option for my business to survive. I'm asking for your consideration for a financial donation so that we can continue to provide a valuable service to the central Ohio community as we've done for the past 48 years. Please send me a message for the direct link to my GoFundMe if you are interested in making a donation.

Big Big Bobcat Football game this week! The 8-1 Bobcat are facing off against the 8-1 Bexley Lions this Friday. This will be a home game for the Bobcats. Kick is set for 7 pm. The game will determine if the Bobcats get a share of the MSL title and a home game for the first round of state playoffs. So we are asking all alumni, former players, former band members former cheerleaders and anyone who has ever cheered on the Bobcats to come out and help root this great group of young men on to a Bobcat Victory! Also we will be forming a Bobcat Pride tunnel for the players to run through as they go from the locker room to the field. We are asking that anyone who might want to be a part of the Bobcat Pride tunnel come down to the north side of the football field with about 10 minutes till kick off. Organizers will be there to help get everyone in place. This will be a great night for Bobcat Nation. We hope to see everyone at the game. Go Bobcats! Beat Bexley! Charlie Casey GH Class of 90 Pres. Grandview Alumni: We need your help! I am on the Grandview Health & Wellness Ccmmittee. Our current project is to expand the weight room up on the balcony of the high school gym. When completed at the end of this summer the project will create an awesome glass enclosed fitness space for weight training, yoga, fitness classes, cardio, etc. This project will expand the fitness space from 700 sq. ft. to 2,800 sq. ft. When completed the fitness space will be welcoming for all students, athletes, non athletes, male, and female. Our current weight room is inadequate and not welcoming to all students. We need your help and support in the form of a donation. We have raised a little over $100,000 and our goal is to raise $175,000. We have gotten a lot of support/donations from the various athletic and civic groups that we have approached. You can get more information on this project and fill out a donation form on our website www.BobcatFitness.com. Or you can donate directly through our GoFundMe page "GHHS Health and Wellness Center". Our Facebook page is "GHHS Health & Wellness Project" Thanks! Derek Brammell Class of '88
My father, Lyle Shover, class of 1947 passed away August 14, 2019. He was very proud to have attended Grandview Heights schools from the 3rd - 12th grades and was also very proud of his classmates from not only 47 but from before and after, who went on to accomplish so many wonderful things!
Members of the Class of 1944 were helpfully listed in the last Newsletter. Many thanks to Bill and Jody Fuller. Does anyone have an address, e-mail or snail mail, for 44's Rowena Eleanor Lee, ordinarily known as Eleanor, or Corky?
Hello Bobcats - I'm doing some geneology research filling in a bunch of blanks on our family tree and am looking for Mary "Eileen" Quinn, class of 1972. Does anyone still have contact with her or know if she's still in the area? If so, I'd love to know! Thanks!

Nicola Vaughn Lyons, age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Violet Springs Health Campus in Pickerington, Ohio. She was born May 29, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter of the late Archie and Dorothea (Vaughn) Strunk. She spent much of her young life in Grandview, Ohio, and later lived many years in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Nicki was talented, kind, caring, and touched many people throughout her life. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1963 and went on to receive a degree in education from The Ohio State University in 1967. She taught English during her early career at Hilltonia Middle School. She spent several years as a homemaker and later worked in the office at University Baptist Church. She went on to serve as Records Manager for the law firm Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, where she retired in 2008. Nicki attended the University Baptist Church where she served in a variety of roles including choir. She also participated in International Coffee Hour, where she would play and interact with children and mothers, teaching them English and how to adapt to life in America. Nicki especially had a passion for piano and guitar which was evident throughout her life. She shared this passion with others by accompanying the choir at church, a concert horn player, and a vocal quartet. She was a long-time member of the "One More Time String Band" where she sang and played guitar at various gigs throughout central Ohio. Nicki and her husband also had a passion for flying and travel. They started out flying model airplanes during their younger years and later obtained pilots licenses and took pleasure in flying a small Cessna aircraft for several years. Since retirement, she has enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gary W. Lyons, whom she married August 2, 1969, and who passed away February 11, 2012; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah (Daniel) Porretta; nephew, Danny Porretta; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert and Bernadine Lyons. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jenny (Asher) Polster of Pickerington, Ohio and Sarah (Dave) Stottsberry of Caldwell, Ohio; grandchildren, Ayden and Bella Polster, and Mason and Brant Stottsberry; brothers, Steve (Mary) Strunk of Dublin, Ohio, Charles Strunk of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; and nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
It saddens me to have to write this post, but for the friends of Jeanne "Weisert" Brown, who have not heard yet, she passed away back on 22 January 2015. Here is the link to her tribute. http://tributes.com/obituary/show/Jeanne-Ellen-Brown-102138069 We had a wonderful Celebration of Her Life at her favorite golf course in Westlake Village, CA. Two of the most beautiful swans swam to us, making it a very special moment in saying good-bye to her.

70th Anniversary of Cake Walk Book - Stories, Pictures, Info. Needed! GHHS Alumni: I am a junior at Grandview HS, a member of the GHHS marching band, and I am writing and publishing a book/booklet on the 70 year tradition of the Grandview Cake Walk for my Girl Scout Gold Award Project (equivalent of the BS Eagle Scout). If you played in the band from 1947 on or attended numerous Cake Walks, please share your stories and pictures with me as there is very little written history about this event. Were there always 5 rings? When did the middle school band start performing at the Cake Walk? When was the cake decorating contest added? When were games for little kids added? How much money was raised? Was it always held in March or April? Was it always just band member families who donated the cakes or did all of the students? Was it always a beloved tradition that brought out the entire community to support the GHHS band and music programs? Any information, fun facts and stories you have would be greatly appreciated. Please send them to me via my mom's e-mail at elizabethjwatters@yahoo.com. Thank you so very much! Meghan Watters, GHHS Class of 2020.
